Job role: Communications Intern
Hours: 3 days per week
Duration: 6 months (with possibility of renewal)
Location: Remote
Compensation:  An honorarium of £6,500 paid in monthly instalments

Makan is a Palestinian-led educational organisation that strengthens voices for Palestinian rights. We are dedicated to providing educational programmes, trainings and resources on Palestine and intersecting struggles to support Palestinian advocates. In this way, we help to strengthen the Palestine movement in Britain and, by extension, the global movement pushing for freedom and justice for Palestinians.

Job Summary:
We’re looking for a passionate and creative Communications Intern to join our Content Team.

As a Communications Intern, you will play a key role in supporting content production for our website and social media platforms. Your primary responsibilities will include designing engaging and educational content, managing social media accounts, creating copy for posts, monitoring comments, maintaining the content calendar, and assisting with various communication-related tasks.

This is an entry-level position, and we encourage candidates with little experience to apply. If you have a creative flair, a strong interest in the Palestinian cause, and a desire to make a meaningful impact, we welcome you to join our team!

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Share daily content on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

  • Brainstorm content ideas

  • Design visually appealing Instagram posts using Canva or similar tools

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on social media platforms

  • Manage the social media content calendar and ensure timely delivery of content

  • Create and send emails using our CRM system

  • Generate monthly reports to measure the performance of emails and social media posts

  • Edit virtual talk recordings

  • Create video highlights from virtual talk recordings for sharing on social media

  • Transcribe virtual talk recordings to facilitate accessibility

  • Update website content

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • Strong understanding of the Palestinian context and commitment to Palestinian rights

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of various social media platforms

  • Basic knowledge of graphic design or videography, with a willingness to learn and improve

  • Familiarity with analytical tools to assess social media performance

  • Creative mindset with the ability to generate engaging content ideas

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team

  • Experience with tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, and WordPress is desirable
