Policing Dissent: Imprisonment as a tool of Genocide: A conversation with Addameer, Level Up & Makan.

July 1 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

Imprisonment in Palestine is part and parcel of a much wider story of colonial and imperial control – a story that takes us back to British colonial rule in Palestine. Today, the settler colony of Israel and the imperial core of Britain still rely heavily on each other to exchange knowledge, tactics and weapons to discipline, dehumanize and reinforce their exploitative power. Since October 2023, over 15,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned by Israel. In recent years, Britain has passed a raft of new anti-protest laws, with an escalation in the policing and targeting of Palestinians and the wider liberation movement.

Makan’s upcoming talk with Addameer and Level Up, ‘Policing Dissent: Imprisonment as a tool of Genocide’ will unpack how carceral policies and practices must be understood as extensions of imperial and colonial violence and what this can teach us about how to create institutions of life in a landscape of annihilation.

Tuesday 1 July, 6:30pm – 7:45pm (London time)
