SUMMARY:Makan x Amnesty: Nakba Day Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Nakba\, meaning “catastrophe” in Arabic\, marks the mass displacement of Palestinians in 1948 during the creation of the state of Israel. But Nakba Day – which is commemorated on May 15th – is not just a historical event. It’s about an ongoing experience of loss\, dispossession and resistance that continues to shape the lives of Palestinians today. This workshop\, created specifically for Youth and Students will: \n– Explain what Nakba Day is and why it matters for human rights\n– Provide historical context around 1948 and the forced displacement of over 750\,000 Palestinians\n– Connect that history to the ongoing realities of occupation\, settler colonialism\, and resistance in Palestine\n– Offer space for young people to reflect\, ask questions\, and better understand the current conflict and activism for Palestinian rights \nWhether you’re new to this topic or already engaged\, this webinar is a space to learn\, connect and deepen your understanding of human rights and how the Nakba is a continuing struggle for dignity\, rights and freedom. This is open to students and youth. \nThis online workshop will be delivered by Amnesty UK in collaboration with Makan. \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Palestine: an Indigenous and Anti-Imperialist Struggle (Bristol Transformed)
DESCRIPTION:As part of Bristol Transformed\, Makan will deliver a session on  Palestine: an Indigenous and Anti-Imperialist Struggle. Participants will explore the concepts of indigeneity\, settler-colonialism\, and imperialism to understand Palestine as both a local Indigenous struggle for decolonisation as well as part of a global anti-imperialist struggle\, and explore how together these frameworks shape our demands and strategies. Through facilitating a safe discussion space\, participants will be given the chance to expand their skills when talking about Palestine by going through talking points heard in the wider public conversation\, and we will collectively analyse these arguments and how to respond to them. \nThis session will combine lecture with group interactivity\, and is appropriate for people who have a foundational knowledge on Palestine. \nGet your tickets here.
