DESCRIPTION:Register your place here \nGlobal discussions increasingly highlight the necessity and role of reparations to achieve accountability\, redress and justice for historical injustices. If done effectively\, reparations have an essential role in decolonial processes. The Ongoing Nakba of the Palestinian people and the “post-apartheid” situation of South Africa offer an opportunity to reflect on the importance of reparations and decolonization in dismantling the structures of foreign domination and systems of oppression.\n\n For Palestinians\, this involves confronting the continuation and consequences of root causes of the Ongoing Nakba: Israeli forced displacement and transfer\, colonization\, apartheid and genocide. For South Africans who are living a ‘post-apartheid’ reality  characterised by a lack of reparations and sustainable social reconciliation\, there continue to be ongoing efforts working to redress the issues around what true reconciliation and justice should look like.  \nJoin BADIL\, Makan & the South Africa Human Rights Commission for an upcoming webinar that aims to provide a space to educate participants on the ongoing Nakba and the process of dismantling apartheid and reparations in South Africa; examine the legal\, political\, and moral foundations for reparations; discuss the South African case as a precedent\, highlighting its achievements and failures; and explore strategies for advocacy\, accountability\, and global solidarity in advancing reparations. \nAbout Tshepo Madlingozi \nTshepo is the Commissioner of the South Africa Human Rights Commission.  \nTrained in law and sociology\, he is a scholar-activist whose work focuses on decolonization\, reparative justice\, human rights\, and participatory democracy. In 2024\, the President of South Africa appointed Madlingozi as a full-time Commissioner at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC)\, an independent constitutional body. At the SAHRC\, he is responsible for the Anti-racism\, Education\, and Equality key areas. \nAbout Lubnah Shomali \nLubnah is a Palestinian activist and has worked with BADIL since 2012. She aims to advance a rights-based decolonial framework and solution for Palestine\, centering the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights to self-determination and return\, and is responsible for BADIL’s donor relations\, fund development\, and legal and international advocacy. \nAbout BADIL  \nBADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights is an independent\, human rights non-profit organization committed to defend and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees and internally displaced persons. Our vision\, mission\, programs and relationships are defined by our Palestinian identity and the principles of international humanitarian and human rights law. The discussion will delve into the ways in which this transnational movement is being deployed across the global south and how to build more robust south to south solidarities. \nThere is often a misconception that peoples across the Global South are inherently on the side of the Palestinian liberation movement. This not only flattens and homogenises the complex histories of south-south solidarity\, it erases the history and development of Christian Zionism and its impact on global majority relationships. In recent years\, Israel and the United States have systematically disrupted global south solidarity with Palestinians by mobilising Christian Zionism across civil societies institutions\, particularly in the cases of Brazil and South Africa.  \nWednesday 17th June on Zoom at 5pm – 6.15pm (London time) \nAbout Isabela Agostinelli  \nIsabela Agostinelli is the Professor of International Relations at Fundação Escola de Comércio Álvares Penteado (FECAP)\, São Paulo\, Brazil. She is a researcher at the International Conflict Studies Group (GECI) at PUC-SP and the National Institute of Science and Technology for United States Studies (INCT-INEU). She holds a PhD in International Relations from the San Tiago Dantas Graduate Program (UNESP\, UNICAMP\, PUC-SP). Her research focuses on Palestine Studies with an emphasis on the Gaza Strip; United States Foreign Policy in the Middle East\, with a focus on the Gulf.   \nAbout Fathi Nimer \nFathi is Al-Shabaka’s Palestine policy fellow. He previously worked as a research associate with the Arab World for Research and Development\, a teaching fellow at Birzeit University\, and a program officer with the Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies. Fathi holds a master’s degree in political science from Heidelberg University and is the co-founder of DecolonizePalestine.com\, a knowledge repository for the Palestinian question. Fathi’s research revolves around political economy and contentious politics. DESCRIPTION:Makan is inviting applications for our ‘Educators for Liberation’ programme\, a transformative education programme for people who want to support Palestine liberation and other struggles for justice through facilitating community learning spaces rooted in liberation and transformation. The programme is open to people worldwide. We welcome application from organisers\, trainers\, educators\, students\, campaigners\, community leaders\, workers\, and anyone active in social justice\, anti-colonial and liberation movements and community spaces. \nApply here! \nAbout the Programme: \nThe programme is rooted in liberation-centered education and builds on Makan’s 10 years of work organising\, teaching\, facilitation\, and collaborations for Palestine and other social justice causes. The programme also draws and learns through archival material from the work of movements and thinkers that came before us\, including Palestinian political education\, anti-colonial movements and tricontinentalism\, anti-racist organising\, feminist movements\, community education and Palestine solidarity. At a time of growing censorship\, repression\, surveillance\, and funding restrictions around Palestine\, there is an urgent pressing need for education that speaks truth to power and nurtures communities committed to the rights of all living beings to live and prosper in societies that respect and refuse to compromise on social\, racial\, environmental\, and economic justice.\n\nBefore applying please note the following :\n\nThis is a voluntary role. Given the current wave of censorship and funding restrictions\, the training programme aims to support and sustain Makan’s work by de-centralising political education and meeting the growing demands of the wider liberation movement. Allowing more communities worldwide to access principled\, accurate\, reflective liberatory education on the Palestinian struggle\nThis training requires a commitment of 8 hours in the span of a month. The training is divided across 4 to 5 weeks in July or September\, depending on your chosen cohort. For the first two rounds of the training we are only accepting 25 facilitators per cohort.\nSessions will take place online every Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm (London time). Each each session will last approximately 2 hours.\nDates for July sessions:  8 July\, 15 July\, 22 July\, 29 July\, 5 August\nDates for September sessions: 23 September\, 30 September\, 7 October\, 14 October\, 21 October\n\n\nProgramme Structure:\n\nThe training will take place over 5 sessions\, with each session lasting around 2 hours. DESCRIPTION:In the third part of this workshop series\, this workshop focuses on Palestinian resistance to gendered and sexual oppression\, highlighting feminist and queer Palestinian movements and organising. SUMMARY:How to Talk About Gender\, Sexuality\, & Palestine
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to help people expand their skills when talking about Palestine in relation to topics of gender and sexuality by offering communication tips on how to engage in such conversations and how to respond to various arguments.
