SUMMARY:Palestine: an Indigenous and Anti-Imperialist Struggle (Bristol Transformed)
DESCRIPTION:As part of Bristol Transformed\, Makan will deliver a session on  Palestine: an Indigenous and Anti-Imperialist Struggle. Through facilitating a safe discussion space\, participants will be given the chance to expand their skills when talking about Palestine by going through talking points heard in the wider public conversation\, and we will collectively analyse these arguments and how to respond to them. \nThis session will combine lecture with group interactivity\, and is appropriate for people who have a foundational knowledge on Palestine. \nGet your tickets here.

SUMMARY:War on Want 2025 AGM Panel 'Not in Our Name: Resisting the UK's Role in Israel's Genocide & Apartheid'
DESCRIPTION:Makan’s Outreach & Programmes Manager\, Sarona\, will moderate a panel discussion for War on Want’s 2025 AGM that will focus on the UK’s complicity in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and its broader role in maintaining the structures of apartheid and occupation. From arms sales and diplomatic support to the silencing of solidarity\, the UK government and institutions are enabling and profiting from the destruction of Palestinian life. \nIsrael’s genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza is enabled by international complicity – of governments\, including the UK\, and powerful corporations. Meanwhile\, the super-rich and corporations are profiting from a political and economic system that pushes millions into poverty\, increases global inequality and drives climate collapse. \nThese crises are connected — and to challenge them\, we must be too. \nSpeakers include Rafeef Ziadah\, Dr Mahim Qureshi & George Collecott \nTickets are free – but any donations directly support Al Mezan Center for Human Rights\, our partner in the Gaza Strip. Book your ticket now to join us in turning protest into power.  \nGet your tickets here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a public lecture on the historical and contemporary counterpoints of pinkwashing\, jointly organised by the Birkbeck Institute of Gender and Sexuality and Makan\, whose transformative education strengthens the movement for Palestinian liberation. SUMMARY:Zionism\, Gender\, and Sexuality Workshop 1 (Gender\, Sexuality\, and Anti-Colonial Struggle in Palestine)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop 1: Zionism\, Gender\, and Sexuality  – Wednesday 9th July\, 6:30-8:30pm – online \nIn the first part of our four-part ‘Gender\, Sexuality\, and Anti-Colonial Struggle in Palestine’ workshop series\, we examine the relationship between colonialism and gender broadly\, and examine how this applies in the context of Palestine. This workshop will focus specifically on the role of gender in the construction of Israeli society historically\, during the early days of the Zionist movement and the foundation of the Israeli state\, before examining how the role of gender in Israeli society has adapted and shifted over time\, co-opting progressive ideas but maintaining these same colonial goals. \nYou’re more than welcome to choose any or all of these workshops to attend\, however we highly encourage you to attend all sessions as they directly build on one another.   \nRegister here: https://forms.gle/nj1ux3hLqCEFdf3a8  \nWednesday 9th July\, 6:30-8:30pm (London time) – Zoom \nDeadline: Wednesday 2nd July

SUMMARY:Settler Colonialism & Ecological Violence in Palestine Online (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this two-part workshop series exploring how we can situate Palestine in relation to the climate crisis and ecological violence. We encourage you to attend both workshops\, but you can also choose to attend only one. \nThis workshop aims to deepen understanding of settler colonialism as the driver of land and natural resource destruction in Palestine. The workshop will expand how we think of violence\,  and explore how settler colonialism both disrupts Indigenous people’s sovereignty over land as well as weaponises natural resources and ‘greenwashing’ to conceal settler violence. Through this\, the session will provide a strong foundation for understanding and articulating ecological violence in Palestine.   \nThis series builds on our previous lecture ‘Framing Palestine: Israel\, the Gulf\, and American Power in the Middle East’ with the Transnational Institute and Adam Hanieh\, to deepen our understanding of the themes presented there. The sessions prioritise interactivity and invite participants to engage in close reading of texts and images in group discussions\, and are interspersed with lecturing.  \nThis workshop is suitable for people who are involved in the climate justice movement and would like to learn more about how it applies to the context of Palestine\, and/or for people who are involved in the Palestinian liberation movement and would like to learn more about how climate justice is central to it. \nApply for your spot here

SUMMARY:Connecting Israel\, Imperialism & the Climate Crisis Online (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:This second part of the workshop series aims to deepen knowledge on imperialism as a framework to analyse the connection between Palestine and the climate crisis. The session will dive into the relationship between imperialism and resource extraction in Palestine and the wider Arab region. It will also touch upon other contexts to show how global imperialism aims to profit from over-consuming natural resources\, and how this both fuels the climate crisis and shapes the contemporary situation in Palestine today.
