SUMMARY:Palestine\, Gender and Sexuality Series with Makan & Queercircle Workshop 1: Zionism\, Gender\, and Sexuality
DESCRIPTION:In the first part of our ‘Palestine\, Gender and Sexuality’ workshop series\, we examine the relationship between colonialism and gender broadly\, and examine how this applies in the context of Palestine. This workshop will focus specifically on the role of gender in the construction of Israeli society historically\, during the early days of the Zionist movement and the foundation of the Israeli state\, before examining how the role of gender in Israeli society has adapted and shifted over time\, co-opting progressive ideas but maintaining these same colonial goals. \nThe workshops in this series prioritise interactivity and invite participants to engage in close reading of texts and images in group discussions\, and are interspersed with lecturing. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Wahda x Makan (In-person workshops)
DESCRIPTION:We will deliver two workshops: Between the Local and Global: Palestine as an Indigenous and anti-Imperialist Struggle\, and How to Talk About Palestine.  \nIn Between the Local and Global: Palestine as an Indigenous and anti-Imperialist Struggle\, we will explore the concepts of indigeneity\, settler-colonialism\, and imperialism to understand Palestine as both a local Indigenous struggle for decolonisation as well as part of a global anti-imperialist struggle\, and explore how together these frameworks shape our demands and strategies. \nHow to Talk About Palestine helps participants expand their skills when talking about Palestine by offering communication tips on how to engage in such conversations\, and by building participants’ confidence to know how to respond to various arguments. Through facilitating a safe discussion space\, we will go through a variety of recurring talking points regularly heard in the media and the wider public conversation\, and we will collectively analyse these arguments and how to respond to them. \nGet your tickets here. \n  \nWahda aims to foster a space of collective learning\, where we can educate each other and strengthen our understanding of the interconnectedness of global anti-imperialist struggles. \nAll proceeds will be going to: \nGaza Sunbirds\, a para-cycling team team providing community led aid in Gaza. They source food from local farms\, warehouses and supermarkets\, distributing them in areas where traditional aid cannot reach\, with their smaller size allowing them to respond quickly to individual community needs. \nSunduq Al Sudan\, a mutual aid organisation supporting relief efforts for Sudanese people. They are currently raising funds to support a children’s feeding program in Adré camp run by Hope and Haven Refugee Association operating within the Chadian branch of the NGO – Saving Alginina Initiative. SAI is a bi-national initiative that formed after the events of the war in June 2023 to help a large number of families who were forced to flee from their homes to the Chadian border region of Adré because of the outbreak of violence.

SUMMARY:War on Want 2025 AGM Panel 'Not in Our Name: Resisting the UK's Role in Israel's Genocide & Apartheid'
DESCRIPTION:Makan’s Outreach & Programmes Manager\, Sarona\, will moderate a panel discussion for War on Want’s 2025 AGM that will focus on the UK’s complicity in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and its broader role in maintaining the structures of apartheid and occupation. From arms sales and diplomatic support to the silencing of solidarity\, the UK government and institutions are enabling and profiting from the destruction of Palestinian life. \nIsrael’s genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza is enabled by international complicity – of governments\, including the UK\, and powerful corporations. Meanwhile\, the super-rich and corporations are profiting from a political and economic system that pushes millions into poverty\, increases global inequality and drives climate collapse. \nThese crises are connected — and to challenge them\, we must be too. \nSpeakers include Rafeef Ziadah\, Dr Mahim Qureshi & George Collecott \nTickets are free – but any donations directly support Al Mezan Center for Human Rights\, our partner in the Gaza Strip. Book your ticket now to join us in turning protest into power.  \nGet your tickets here.

SUMMARY:Zionism\, Gender\, and Sexuality Workshop 1 (Gender\, Sexuality\, and Anti-Colonial Struggle in Palestine)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop 1: Zionism\, Gender\, and Sexuality  – Wednesday 9th July\, 6:30-8:30pm – online \nIn the first part of our four-part ‘Gender\, Sexuality\, and Anti-Colonial Struggle in Palestine’ workshop series\, we examine the relationship between colonialism and gender broadly\, and examine how this applies in the context of Palestine. \nYou’re more than welcome to choose any or all of these workshops to attend\, however we highly encourage you to attend all sessions as they directly build on one another.   \nRegister here: https://forms.gle/nj1ux3hLqCEFdf3a8  \nWednesday 9th July\, 6:30-8:30pm (London time) – Zoom \nDeadline: Wednesday 2nd July
