DESCRIPTION:As we approach the 77th year of the ongoing Palestinian Nakba\, Makan will be holding an online mini lecture that will focus on the local and global context of the early 20th century to provide an understanding of the period leading up to the Nakba. The session will look at specifically: \n\nBritish imperialism’s role in paving the way for Zionist colonisation to begin in Palestine in the early 1920s\nPalestinian resistance to British and Zionist colonisation \nUnderstanding the Nakba as a process that began well before 1948 and continues to today\n\n\nThe session will include a 40 minute talk and a short Q&A. \nRegister here \nDeadline: Monday 5th May\, 5pm London time

DESCRIPTION:For this event\, editor Ahmed Alnaouq and contributor Malak Mattar discuss the book in conversation with Makan Director\, Aimee Shalan. \nFollowing the 2014 Gaza War and decades of oppression and resistance\, storytelling platform We Are Not Numbers (WANN) was founded to give a voice to the youth of Gaza. \nIn an epilogue covering the most recent war in Gaza\, the collection’s editors Ahmed Alnaouq and Pam Bailey reflect on the personal tragedies they have faced\, including the deaths of 21 of Alnaouq’s family members in a single bomb blast\, as well as those writers able to take WANN’s work forward and those no longer alive to do so. \nIn a rallying cry to onlookers around the world\, We Are Not Numbers offers unparalleled insight into the real lives of the people of Gaza and imagines where we might go from here. \nPresented in association with PalFest. \nBuy your tickets here.
